Our Story
The Essex Film Festival was created in the summer of 2006, when cinema’s and theatres were at the peak of their business. Cinema’s and theatres advanced over the years and gradually lost the welcoming feeling that they once had. This is what motivated the idea of creating a film festival that offers a homely feeling for viewers.
Created in Essex and still in Essex is what makes this film festival special. We are big believers of giving back to the community that once gave to us.

The History of the Essex Film Festival
May 16th 2006
The creation of the Essex Film Festival
The first year of the Essex Film Festival, achieved a number of 20 guests. This did not stop us.
July 4th 2007
American Independence Day
Our first holiday special day, featuring some of the most famous American movies alongside activities that increased our numbers from the previous year to 40 guests.
June 11th 2015
The Big Step
9 years after launching the Essex Film Festival, we was approached with an offer we could not refuse. The opportunity to partner with Disney+ and show featured films

The Global Pandemic
When Covid-19 sadly became a global pandemic it completely ruined our business, as we specialise in outdoor events and socialising with new people. This set us back thousands of pounds.

Establishment
After 19 years in the film festival industry we are proud to announce 2026 is our 20th Birthday. Which is why we have to end this year with a bang.
